Very Easy Tips For Getting Tan This Summer Season – Don’t Get Sunburned

It sure seems like it took long enough this year, but the summer finally made it. For most, this means getting a long awaited suntan.

While you are out in the sun, getting some rays, following some simple safety tips is so vital in order to keep your skin healthy and safe, while still getting some sun on you for that tan you have been wanting.

Which SPF?

Even though safe tanning does not really exist, you can use some easy ways that you can try to lessen the damage you are doing to your skin as you get a tan in the hot sun, or while you use your local tanning bed.

If you plan on going to the local beach as the sun beats down on your body, you really should be wearing a quality sunscreen. You can’t block 100% of UVB rays, but a good sunscreen with SPF 45 is reported to block around 98% of the sun’s rays that contain harmful UVB’s.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you will be in the water, your sunscreen is going to wear off much faster than if you are out of the water. It is a good idea to reapply sunscreen after each trip to the lake, or every couple of hours minimum.

If you don’t live near a beach, and you choose to visit your local tanning salon to get some color in the tanning beds, it will do you good to use caution there as well.

Tanning salons:

Tanning beds in short bursts are safer than direct sunlight, but that is not to say that it is a safe practice by any means. Even in a tanning bed, you really should be applying a good sunblock because of the fact that your skin will still be getting hit by harmful UVB rays that can burn you and cause skin damage.

If you choose to tan in a salon and you have your own goggles, be sure to bring them with you and wear them, or wear the goggles that are provided to you by the salon owner. These goggles play an essential part in protecting your eyes from the damaging UVB rays emitted by the tanning bed.

Safer tanning methods:

To be the safest, while still getting some color on your sensetive skin, you could always try some of the sunless tanning methods. There are sunless tanning lotions that you can find in just about any store that will give you a healthy looking bit of color for about 3 days.

In addition, your local tanning salon can offer you a spray tan that lasts a bit longer than tanning lotions. A spray tan will last anywhere from 5 – 10 days or possibly a little more, and it is 100% free of UVB rays and is FDA approved for use on humans.

Staying protected from the sun means that you can be outside for a longer period, without getting so burned, so you can take your sunscreen with you on your next summer trip and enjoy yourself a bit more this year.
