Skyrim Creation Kit Will Be Here Soon For Free

By Brian P Rubin | 01 February 2012 | News | , , , | 6 Comments

Pretty soon, all you talented (or maybe not-so-talented) Skyrim modders will be able to get your hands on the official creation kit from Bethesda, which is going to be released through Steam for free.

Take a gander at the above preview video for all the details. It looks POWERFUL. And complicated. Too complicated for my tiny brain. But I’m sure someone will be hard at work at creating even more My Little Pony mods than ever before.

Downton Abbey DVD

Welcome to Downton Abbey DVD – Your Home For All Things Downton Abbey

downton abbey dvd

If you ha

ven‘t seen the spectacular show Downton Abbey on DVD yet, you are really missing out. You have probably heard of this show by now since it is becoming quite popular here in America lately though.

The first season of Downton Abbey starts off by telling us what we have missed. The Crawley’s are living in this huge castle/mansion called Downton Abbey. The Crawleys need a male heir to inherit the palace but there is a tragedy when he is killed aboard the Titanic.

This sets the story in motion and allows us to catch up with them and their faithful (mostly) servants whom live in Downton as well. This show has a lot of plotting and scheming but it is not like you would expect from an American style soap.

There is far less evil doing and planning to do true damage to other people and more naughtiness than anything. The acting is simply amazing too, which is especially impressive considering how large the cast is.

Season 1 of the Downton Abbey DVD wraps up with the revelation that World War I has broken out, which leaves everybody in the house fearful for what may happen to them, and the home they have grown to love.

Video Games Today Make My Eyes Hurt!

James Brown | Activity | MSU School of Journalism

Have you seen this game called Skyrim? This looks like the coolest game I have ever seen and I must play it at once! I’m not really ver good at video games though because for some reason my eyes get really tired when I play them.

On top of that, I tend to get lost when I have these huge worlds that I can walk around in endlessly collecting trinkets and doing the various many quests that are available in the game.

I am used to games that are very simple to play you know. Like in this Skyrim game you can get married, turn into a werewolf and even a vampire. I totally get turning into a werewolf, but why would I want to learn how to get married in skyrim? I mean, I don’t really plan on my character being that lonely.

I probably will though, because the graphics in Elder Scrolls Skyrim look WAY too cool to pass up. The only thing I won’t be able to do though is spend countless hours playiing it…I do have a life you know.

What Do I Need To Brew Your Own Beer?

Have you ever made your own beer at home? I am just getting into the hobby (way of life) and I've found that it seems a lot less complicated than I thought it would be.

When I was looking for a home brewing kit for beginners I found out something about the whole process. I actually have some of the supplies needed to brew my own beer right in my own kitchen. The rest of the items I need come in the home brewing kit.

Five Gallon Pots:

Making beer is fairly straight-forward but since it takes some time I see no reason to not make enough the first time around. I could use some 2 gallon pots but there's no reason for that. I can do the same amount of work with a 5-gallon pot and have a much better yield at the end of the process.

Beer Buckets:

Like the pots, there isn't any good reason to use only 1 bucket. The job calls for two of them so it makes sense to have two 5 gallon buckets for transfer. If you go to one of the many beer supply outfits you can easily pick up things like the buckets and pots you need for brewing.

Strainer:

Brewing beer makes a sort of a stew called a wort which must be strained unless you like your beer chunky. Some people use panty hose or types of cheese cloth to strain the wort, but it's easier to just get a good strainer since you may want to use it again anyway.

Caps & Bottles:

Of course when the brew is ready to be bottled we are going to want some good bottles and caps to keep the air out and the freshness in. You really don't want flat, nasty beer like this one guy I knew made once. He bottled it in a soda bottle, you know, the plastic kind. Needless to say it tasted nasty and was really flat.

And you can't forget the hops and the yeast which are essential for how your beer is going to come out in the end.

The process takes a long time compared to simply going to the local liquor store and purchasing a 30-pack of your favorite watered-down pilsner but it is so worth it for the great taste you get from some really good home brewed beer.

For me personally, the biggest problem is going to occur when I am all finished. It will be really hard to keep my paws off of that delicious beer when it's ready to drink. I love my beer a lot, and have no problem drinking it any time of the night or day. I can drink it when I'm sick, hungover and when I'm happy.

Even if it makes me a bit fat for a short time I know that having my own home brewed beer at home is going to really make me a happy person! If you want to try brewing your own beer too just make sure not to skimp on the ingredients that are going to give your beer all of its taste. If you want to taste some boring, watered-down beer you can get that stuff at the liquor store anytime you want.

Have you had the chance to make your very own beer yet? I am just getting into the hobby (way of life) and I’ve found that it seems a lot less complicated than I thought it would be.

I started looking at those home brewing kits for beginners and made a discovery. I actually have some of the supplies needed to brew my own beer right in my own kitchen. The rest will come from the home brewing kit that I have, and of course I already have my thirst for drinking the finished product already.

5-Gallon Beer Cooking Pots:

Making beer is fairly straight-forward but since it takes some time I see no reason to not make enough the first time around. I have some 2 gallon pots here at home already, but to make a really large batch of my first beer, I will need some 5-gallon pots to really beef up the batch.

Beer Buckets:

Like the pots, there isn’t any good reason to use only 1 bucket. The job calls for two of them so it makes sense to have two 5 gallon buckets for transfer. If you go to one of the many beer supply outfits you can easily pick up things like the buckets and pots you need for brewing.

Some Kind Of Straining Method:

When you make beer you end up with something that is called ”wort”. If you want your beer to be delicious, you will want to strain all of that out so you end up with pure liquid. Some people use panty hose or types of cheese cloth to strain the wort, but it’s easier to just get a good strainer since you may want to use it again anyway.

Caps & Bottles:

If you plan to actually enjoy your beer you will want some good beer bottles and beer caps to make it look authentic and keep the air out. You don’t want it to end up like my friend’s beer which he bottled in an empty plastic 2-litre soda bottle!

And you can’t forget the hops and the yeast which are essential for how your beer is going to come out in the end.

Sure, this is going to take you some time to make your own beer but think of the alternative. If you went to the store and bought some of the traditional stuff it’s just not going to taste half as good.

The biggest problem that I see in the whole process is going to be keeping my hands off of the finished product actually. I really love the way beer tastes and no matter what time of day it is, I can find a good reason to drink some most of the time. It really doesn’t matter how I feel, I can drink it under almost any condition.

Even if it makes me a bit fat for a short time I know that having my own home brewed beer at home is going to really make me a happy person! When you try to brew your own beer like I am, just be sure to not flake out on the ingredients and end up with cheap beer. If you want to taste some boring, watered-down beer you can get that stuff at the liquor store anytime you want.

More and more people are discovering that with a home brewing kit for beginners they can create any kind of beer that they want. In addition, the quality of the brew in many cases outweighs the quality found in many domestic beers.

Fed up with paying small fortunes for lackluster beer from the big brewing companies, many people are simply turning to their own kitchen to find the best source for their favorite beers.

Diet for Maintaining A Shiny and Beautiful Crop of Hair

Check out this website I found at healthcarereviewers.com

At-Home Freezer Fudge « oneluckyduck.com

This fudge is super easy to make – kids can even do most of it by themselves.

Chewy Chocolate Freezer Fudge

Makes about 64 1” square pieces (about ¾ thick)

2 cups almond butter (one 16-ounce jar)

¼ cup cocoa powder, or raw carob powder sifted to remove any lumps

½ cup plus 2 tablespoons maple syrup

1 heaping tablespoon coconut oil (one heaping tablespoon of solid oil, if liquefied, use 1 1/2  tablespoons)

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients, stirring well.  You can also use a standing mixer with the paddle attachment, but it’s more fun to do it by hand.

Spoon the mixture into little candy molds, flatten with a spoon, and cover with parchment or wax paper.  Or line a square baking pan with parchment or plastic.  Place the fudge into the pan and cover the surface with parchment or wax paper, pressing down evenly to flatten.  Place in the freezer to chill.  If using the pan, remove from the freezer after an hour or so, flip it out of the pan onto a flat surface and cut into squares or rectangles.  These should be stored, covered in the freezer (otherwise they will get too soft and mushy) where they would keep quite well for a long time if they didn’t always get eaten so fast.

Brewer Microloan | Main Street Microfinance

Brewing a New Market for Microloans.

September 13th, 2011 by Alejandra Boggiano in Stories from the Field, Success Stories

ACCION USA Staff are brewing up a new market for our microloans. Where, you may ask, are we stirring up this new business?  Well, we like to think of ourselves as ‘loan brewristas’, taking the craft brew scene by storm in partnership with Samuel Adams on our Brewing the American Dream program.Danielle and Benajamin- Brooklyn Homebrew

As the craft brew scene in America blossoms, ACCION USA is working alongside the industry’s leader and pioneer Samuel Adams to champion small craft brewers by providing microloans to start or expand a home or contract brewing operation, storefront brewery or brewpub.

Our Craft Brewer Loan Fund is making a splash across the country, supporting unique brews like California based Mateveza , Roc Brewing Company in Rochester NY and Flounder Brewing in Hillsborough. Through a recent loan to a home brew supply shop, we feel we’re starting to make a real mark on an exciting movement.

A few years ago, I (Erica) read an article in New York magazine about a couple that had opened a homebrew shop in Brooklyn. I remember being impressed by knowing that something like this could exist, that a young couple, both former chefs could open their own hobby store in the midst of the greatest recession my generation has seen.

Danielle and Benjamin’s homebrew shop is nestled in a swampy yet very hip neighborhood called Gawanus in Brooklyn. You feel like a happy hobbit walking into their garden level brew dwelling- upon entering you see a magnificently organized candy store for the likes of hobby craft brewers.  When they responded to my direct email about the Brewing the American Dream Program, I biked over as quickly as I could to explain the awesome benefits that ACCION and Sam Adams have to offer their crafty community.

When Benjamin and Danielle opened Brooklyn homebrew they did it without the help of a bank or a credit card. They started selling from their home at first and later expanded to their store front on 3rd avenue. The issue Danielle and Benjamin were encountering was having space to keep enough inventory-they are able to sell out of their entire stock, sometimes in just one weekend!   Once Danielle and Benjamin submitted their application and a few documents, ACCION USA was able to approve them for a loan of $10,000 to buy a larger fridge and to rent a storage space nearby to keep their beer booty.

As the American craft beer renaissance continues to take off in Brooklyn, so does their business.

At ACCION, we are very excited to be contributing to an incredible movement of entrepreneurial creativity.  In addition to providing capital, mentorship, and PR support, our Craft Brewer Program has offered brewers the opportunity to apply for the Samuel Adams Experienceship.  Stay tuned for more details on how you can help us select our winner!

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. made it offical today that it has chosen a site in western North Carolina for the future home of an east coast brewery. The site, approximately 90 acres in the Henderson County town of Mills River – 12 miles south of Asheville – will be home to the new production facility, as well as a proposed restaurant and gift shop.

“We are thrilled to have found an ideal location in western North Carolina for our second brewery,” founder Ken Grossman said for a press release. “The beer culture, water quality and quality of life are excellent. We feel lucky to be a part of this community.”

The east coast brewery will start with a capacity around 300,000 barrels, with room to grow.
Sierra Nevada began the search for a new location several years ago. The brewery looked at hundreds of potential sites, eventually narrowing the search down to a handful of locations.

Sierra Nevada’s eastern brewery site is expected to employ approximately 90 workers, with additional staff in the restaurant to follow. The brewery anticipates being operational by early 2014.

Downton Abbey | The Cavalier Daily

The British are coming! Masterpiece Classic’s Downton Abbey, the Golden Globe-winning period drama, has captivated viewers in the U.K. and made its way onto U.S. television screens in a most welcome invasion. The show, now in its second season, centers around two groups coexisting in the titular estate: the aristocratic Crawley family, with the dignified patriarch Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) at the helm; and the house staff, led by butler Charles Carson (Jim Carter).

Set in 1912, the first episode of the drama begins with the tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic. Lord Grantham’s closest male relative — and the heir of Downton Abbey — goes down with the ship. With three daughters and no male heir, Lord Grantham is forced to scour his family tree for an eligible relative. The man found is not an aristocrat, but rather a distant cousin and working-class lawyer named Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens). This unexpected turn of events leads the Crawley family into a frantic attempt to welcome Matthew into the family, all while grappling with the notion that its fortune will be relinquished to a virtual stranger. Meanwhile, a group of suitors come through Downton in hopes of winning the affections of the eldest Crawley daughter, Mary (Michelle Dockery), whose sharp tongue, stubbornness and wit make her a prized — yet difficult — catch.

In response to the steady stream of visitors, the Downton staff is kept busy cooking, cleaning and preparing magnificent dinners for the Crawleys’ guests while simultaneously juggling its own drama. The frequent yet never dull dinner scenes are one of the most delightful parts of the Downton Abbey experience. The dinner table is a stage for the beautiful, early 20th-century costume gowns, scintillating conversation and tangible tension between characters. Impossible to overlook is the Dowager Countess of Grantham, played to perfection by the timeless Maggie Smith, who can deftly deliver a punch line with just one haughty look.

Downton Abbey is a beautiful show, and the cast is no exception. The Crawley daughters are stunning, but not in the made-up, botox-infused, artificial way most Hollywood actresses are these days. Instead, their high cheekbones, perfectly arched brows and striking eyes require little makeup at all. In addition, Matthew Crawley epitomizes every girl’s favorite heartthrob with his prince-charming good looks. The scenery matches the aesthetics of the cast; breathtaking panning shots of the sprawling estate reveal not only a stunning work of architecture, but also the source of the household’s magnificent reputation and the grandeur of the aristocracy.

Show creator Julian Fellowes has credited Downton’s success in part to its element of surprise. Unlike many other Masterpiece Classic series, it is not based on a novel, leaving room for Fellowes to sculpt drama, create characters and insert plot twists without boundaries. With this freedom comes a few downsides, however, as the plot sometimes takes on a taste of soap opera-esque impossibility which leaves critics and viewers alike skeptical. Still, fans of the show can agree that a little leg-pulling never hurt anyone. It’s the combination of all these elements — the wide shots of picturesque beauty, stellar acting and generally brilliant script writing — which make Downton Abbey such a success. And the characters’ posh British accents don’t hurt, either.

Happy 150th Birthday, Edith Wharton! « The Blog of the ABAA

Today would be the 150th birthday of famed American author Edith Wharton, who is probably most widely known for her examination of New York society in the early twentieth century (The Age of Innocence and The House of Mirth were both centered around this theme).  Wharton was a very successful writer in her time, receiving both popular and critical acclaim in addition to good compensation for her works (any writer’s dream!).  She composed travel essays, short stories, novels, and, later in life, short autobiographical essays.  Wharton was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1921 for The Age of Innocence.

In 1902, Wharton designed and built The Mount based on the principles she outlined in her 1897 book, The Decoration of Houses.  Today, The Mount is “an autobiographical house”, “both a historic site and a center for culture inspired by the passions and achievements of Edith Wharton.”  To commemorate what would have been Wharton’s 150th birthday, The Mount is kicking off a year of special events.  Please click here to view a list of special events at The Mount and other locations throughout the country.

Wharton has recently had an impact on popular culture with the popularity of the PBS series Downton Abbey (a great show if you’re unfamiliar!).  The New York Times had a piece on the connection last week, with Downton’s  creator, Julian Fellowes, citing Wharton’s novels as a major influence.  It’s a great article worth a read.

If you’re in New York and looking to get your Wharton fix, there will be an Edith Wharton Marathon Reading at the Center for Fiction on Thursday at 5pm.  Tickets are $20 with all proceeds going to support The Mount.

Happy Birthday, Edith!

Steal Their Style: Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey has more than just a Mini Series Golden Globe and an Emmy to be proud of; the British period drama also deserves an unofficial gong for its inspirational sense of style.

It’s not just Anglophiles and history lovers who’ve fallen for Downton’s decadently romantic dresses and slick three piece suits, even Hollywood’s more offbeat stars like Katy Perry have become love struck by the show. Katy could barely contain her excitement over the programmes’ recent award success and tweeted her approval from her seat at the ceremony “Yes Downton Abbey! Right on, imo.”

Mad Men was the first to inspire a trip to the Vintage shop to pick up some hourglass encouraging 50s style clobber, but now we’re taking inspiration from post-Edwardian England and have been propelled even further back in fashion history to the opulent 1920s. The show’s silent stars are the incredibly talented costume designers Susannah Buxton and Rosalind Ebbutt.

Vintage is no easy feat (as anyone who’s taken an uneducated trip to a real vintage store will know!), and a huge amount of research, experience and attention to detail goes into every costume. Some of the authentic pieces are almost 100 years old and thus aren’t worn with the same wanton abandon (to channel my inner DA damsel) as a fresh-out-of-the-factory high street piece.

But, luckily for us the high street does, as always, provide a carefree means of adding a dash of 1920’s glamour to our wardrobe. From dropped waist dresses to feathers, pearls, fur capes and Victorian style boots (Penneys has some), Autumn/Winter saw a huge surge in high society dress codes.

To take the look through to Spring/Summer, look out for hand-stitched details, beading, lace and fringed shawls. See the Gucci and Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti Spring/Summer 2012 (pictured) runways for a high fashion insight into the trend.

For some serious authenticity,  add vintage inspired accessories like a cameo “mourning” pin, drop earrings or mini clutch bags with embellished detailing.

Make-up is kept simple: no eye makeup (except for mascara), lots of SPF and an illuminating foundation such as Chanel or Armani. Hair is set in period–esque curls often interspersed with ribbons, pearls, hairbands and jewels.

Here are some of our favourite Downton Abbey-esque picks:

Andersen and Lauth Beaded Dress €415 (available at Arnotts)

LK Bennett Beaded Rose Clutch €230

Emerald Ring Accessorize £20/€26.90

Drop Earrings Accessorize £6/€7.90

[edit] Sex and the City

In case you haven't heard, Sex and the City is a popular television show turned movie. With the release of the sex and the city 2 DVD last year you may have noticed it has quite a following.

It is show/film about 4 girls from New York City that are always looking for love and romance. While this show may not be your cup of tea, it is definitely worth watching at least once because it is filled with great adult humor.
