Christmas is a great time of year, but it certainly comes with the ability to cause stress, anxiety and for many people, depression. For someone with an anxiety disorder this can be made much worse when added to all of the shopping, time constraints and rushing around to buy that perfect gift for little Timmy. For this holiday season, take a breath and relax or you may find yourself with an anxiety disorder that does not quickly go away. So what things can you do to alleviate your anxiety this holiday season?
Learning how to manage your time is a great start. There is no rule that you must attend every single holiday party that you receive an invitation to. Many people love their annual office party during the holidays, but if the end result is stress and anxiety, then skip it! Besides, you spend enough time with all of those people, so try hitting the holiday parties that are more geared toward family and friends. Isn't that what the Christmas season is all about anyway?
And try taking some time for yourself this year too! Yes, the holiday season is about giving and sharing, but at what cost? If you end up with fried nerves and an empty wallet then what good have you accomplished? Spending some quality time by yourself unwinding from the stress of the season is a great way to rejuvenate yourself so that you can enjoy everything there is to do at Christmas this year. If all else fails, go shopping for that great present that you have been looking for this year, it will make you feel a lot better during stressful times.
And the worst thing you can do is to stress out and become anxious trying to buy everybody the things they want. While it is a great feeling to get your loved one that special present, it is much more important to just be happy to spend time with them. And forget about the shopping madness that happens every year at this time! If you are to enjoy any part of this season, it may be very wise for you to skip the super crazy shopping days where you and thousands of others compete for the latest trendy gifts.
Christmas time is a special time of year, and it is so enjoyable for so many people. But if you have a tendency toward anxiety or panic attacks, then it will benefit you greatly to take it a bit easy this year. Sure, there is a lot of fun to be had, but you need to make sure that that holiday fun and spirit do not come with added and unwanted stress long after the holiday is over.
