Who doesn't love a wooden train to play with? I know I certainly do, and I'm much too old to be playing with one! I never had a wooden toy train growing up but I remember being able to play with my friends and having the greatest time.
Now as I look at what kids today are playing with and remembering my own youthful playtime I realize that some of the best times in my life occurred when things were more simple and free from the burdens of technology.
If you have a little engineer in your family you will enjoy some of the hugely positive things that owning a wooden toy train can bring a child, not to mention the fun it creates.
Wooden trains originated in the 1800's in Sweden. The construction was pure craftsmanship consisting of wooden tracks in addition to the actual trains which were obviously made of wood as well.
There is no one size fits all for trains either. They come in a range of sizes from miniature to big enough for you to sit in and ride around the amusement park. Of course your pocket book will be affected by the size of train you are looking for, so you will have to be aware of that.
Remember the days when you could have fun and learn?
Those days still exist believe it or not. Keeping in mind that you may have to give your child a hand when setting up his new train, he will still have plenty of room to learn things during playtime. Putting together pieces of track and figuring out how to make the whole thing work are great stimulation for a growing mind of a child.
And for those of you who worry that your child may not be developing any social skills, remember how he plays. Playtime for groups of children are how the world is supposed to be. Ideas are discussed without much though, and plans are made to do one simple thing, which is to have fun.
There is no worry of social awkwardness or fitting in because young children have not learned these things yet as they are too busy having a blast playing conductor with their toys.And don't forget about their little vocabulary which grows each day as they figure out how to use their imagination to describe what they are seeing through their innocent eyes.
Finding train sets for toddlers is easy to do and kids just love playing with them. This has been true for a hundred years and will be true for hundreds more very likely.
